Our Programs

Empowering the Next Generation

WYSE is designed to elevate the middle school experience with small class sizes, individualized curriculum, social-emotional support and outdoor education.  Our programs include interest-based topics, problem-solving, and project-oriented group work to help our students intensify their curiosity and passion for learning.  The students lead the way.  We are here to support their interests.

We look forward to getting to know your child and your family!

Academic Year Programming

Our core program runs Monday through Thursday, Labor Day to Memorial Day, from our home base in historic downtown New Milford, with the Autumn and Spring offering one day a week at area hiking trails and conservation sites.  The student experience includes foundational project-based learning, executive function training, outdoor education, and opportunities to bond as a community.  We offer an enviable 3:1 student-to-staff ratio and highly individualized learning opportunities.

Fridays at WYSe

Fridays, our fifth day of classes, are optional, registered by term.  These days are highly individualized for each student.  Opportunities range from art and cooking to advanced mathematics, advanced topics, and outdoor education, depending on the season.  Many families opt for all three terms but may choose to take a day to enjoy autumnal activities in Fall, ski in Winter, or travel in Spring.

The choice is yours.

Interest Based Learning

Interest-based learning is the core tenet of our program. When students are given the freedom to learn about topics that genuinely interest them, they are more engaged, more attentive, and more likely to develop their love of learning. We encourage our students to think beyond the scope of classes currently offered and to request courses in subjects that interest them. We recruit staff and assemble a class schedule each year based on the requests of students and parents. This makes each student’s learning experience personalized and unique, just like them!
